Convert object from one type to another

Is there an easy way to convert one object type to another? We have an "application" object and i'd like to change it to "Software Technology" and have a mapping between the fields that should transpose from the application object to the software technology object

There is no direct conversion tool but, you could use the excel export tool to export the data. Setup the excel file to handle both application and software technology. Export the data for the application, copy the data to the technology columns and re-import the data.
