Preventing custom attributes from appearing on out-of-the-box "Characteristics" tab

Hi,

we have created some custom attributes that we want to group on a custom MetaPropertyPage. However, after we create the custom MetaPropertyPage, the custom MetaAttributes still show on the out-of-the-box "Characteristics" tab in a group called "Extensions". Is there a way we can prevent our custom attributes from also appearing on the "Characteristics" tab?
