Replace object of same metaclass on a diagram

Hello,

Several of our users asked us if HOPEX has  a "Replace object" feature.

For example,

  • On an Application System structure or Scenario of flows diagrams:
    • Can I replace one Application object that has connections (e.g. interaction, flows, channels etc), with another Application object (i.e. another object of same metaclass)?
  • On an Application Structure or Scenario diagram
    • Can I replace one IT service with another IT service?

This comes down to users needing a quick way to replace one object in a diagram with another - without needing to manually re-create all the connections.

Is this possible?

Hello,

It would be, indeed, a valuable feature. But be careful about replacing the "reference" object in structure diagram: it could create discrepencies/unconsistencies in repository data !
I explain : when creating a service interaction, some objects and links (like service and request points for example) are created hiddenly and linked somehow to the interaction and reference object. Those objects and links won't be adapted automatically if you just change the reference object. And so the interactions would be linked to new reference on one side and former reference on the other side. Reports and queries would be inconsistent.

We will consider the idea to provide a specific tool to do this.

Thank you.

Today I learned that you CAN replace a component Application with another Application.

For example - imagine you want to replace one component application in an Application System structure diagram.

  1. As IT Architect, open the Application System structure diagram
  2. Select the Application component you wish to replace with another Application
  3. Open its properties
  4. From Characteristics tab, expand the "Component-Application <name of the application>" section
  5. Select the option to connect existing Application or to create new Application as the replacement Application object.

To me, this seems like a valuable feature to have. I will open an idea.
