We are testing the Visio import functionality for BPMN Process flows, and was wondering if anyone has successfully used the feature.
More specifically, we have some questions around the following:
1) What is typically the use case for the Visio import functionality: is this something that is intended to be used at the beginning of a HOPEX deployment as a way to kick-start the data entry? Have you successfully used to supplement modeling already done in HOPEX?
...which leads to...
2) reuse of existing objects VS creation of new objects: is it possible to force the Visio import to reuse existing objects in the Repository? Ex.: if we configure the import to connect Org-Units to Participants, and if there is already an Org-Unit in the Repository with the same name as the Visio Swimlane, can we force HOPEX to reuse that existing Org-Unit, as opposed to creating a new Org-Unit with the same name?
3) in the User documentation, it seems that when configuring the import of a diagram, we should be able to indicate the type of event to import (similar to how you can select the type of Gateway to import). However we haven't been able to do that: we can't pick the type in the "Attribute/Link" drop-down. Is this the normal behavior?
The Visio import capability is really aimed to initialize Hopex repository from existing Visio Legacy, especially for process diagrams.
However, it is possible to reuse existing objects, like the Org-Unit/Participant you mention. It is obviously based on names that should match exactly to enable reusability.
About your point #3, it should work, it is possible that a remaining bug exists. We will have someone check it and give you further details.
Hope it helps,
Thank you for your reply. We have continued testing the Visio import functionality, but seem to be running into some issues. I have created a support ticket for this (#76779 if you have any interest looking into it).
