Francesco Rutigliano, Application Architecture, Innovation and Quality Assurance Manager at Edison S.p.A. had the objective to centrally manage the application portfolio while the company was using several unconsolidated spreadsheets. The company also wanted to make an inventory of all the applications, including cloud applications which are increasingly used by the business, but not necessarily tracked by IT.
One of the main goals of Edison was to better assess the business value and the functional coverage of each of their applications and determine how each application supported business processes. This information was indeed critical to improve decision-making and streamline the application portfolio.
Another interesting aspect of the case study is that it describes the steps taken by the company to implement the application management tool in the organization and how they tackled very tactical things like duplicate application names when they made the inventory of the application portfolio.
As a result, implementation of the application portfolio management solution brought the following benefits to the organization:
“Adopting an Application Portfolio Management solution has allowed us to work in a more structured way. The solution uses a single repository of information about all applications, which provides a better way to manage them. The project helped us map our entire IT portfolio, providing clearer visibility into our IT resources. “ explains Francesco Rutigliano.
